Campus awareness initiative

Challenge
Incoming students require clear, accessible information about campus dining plans, pricing structures, and meal options before arriving at McMaster University. The objective of this project was to design an informative and welcoming handout that simplified complex food plan procedures while aligning with Hospitality Services branding. In addition to visual clarity, the initiative required coordination with senior level stakeholders to define messaging priorities, strategic goals, and distribution planning for student orientation events.
Approach
The handout was structured to guide prospective students through dining options in a logical and approachable format, combining concise copy, iconography, pricing breakdowns, and clear calls to action. Visual hierarchy played a critical role in simplifying detailed information such as residence meal plans, dietary accommodations, and off campus flexibility. Collaboration with university leadership helped shape both the strategic direction of the content and the rollout plan, ensuring the materials were effectively distributed during recruitment and welcome events. The final design balanced institutional credibility with an inviting and student focused tone.
Outcome
The completed handout became a key touchpoint in welcoming new students and supporting informed decision making around campus dining. By presenting structured information in an approachable format, the piece enhanced clarity around meal plan procedures and reinforced the professionalism of Hospitality Services.
