Visualizing sound

Challenge

The objective was to design a series of
album artworks optimized for digital music streaming platforms, where visuals must capture attention instantly at small sizes while accurately reflecting the artist’s identity and the label’s direction. The challenge was balancing creative expression with platform specifications, marketing strategy, and close collaboration with artists and record labels to ensure each concept aligned with brand, genre, and audience expectations.

Approach

I conducted research into each artist’s branding, musical tone, and audience to define a creative direction in collaboration with artists and label representatives. Using a digital first mindset, compositions were tested at thumbnail scale to ensure clarity and impact across streaming interfaces, with color, typography, and graphic elements intentionally crafted to stand out. Realistic mobile mockups were used to evaluate context and refine the final artwork before delivery.

Outcome

The final album artworks translated each artist’s identity into compelling digital visuals built for streaming platforms. The designs maintained strong presence at small sizes while preserving distinctive branding, resulting in cohesive, professional assets that enhanced artist visibility and strengthened their presence across digital distribution channels.

This body of work highlights how visual design can translate sound into identity. Through thoughtful collaboration and digital first execution, each album artwork became a clear extension of the artist’s voice within a highly competitive streaming landscape.
